DGA is an abbreviation for the Disc Golf Association, which was founded in the USA in 1976 by Ed Headrick. DGA and Ed Headrick have had a great impact on the development of disc golf as we know it today by, among other things, having developed the standard for disc golf baskets. DGA also develops and sells disc golf discs. Their disc is produced today at Discraft.
DGA as association and business
The DGA has previously been the governing organization for the sport of disc golf. Today it is primarily a business that develops and sells discs, designs and builds disc golf courses in the USA and provides various types of teaching. Today, it is instead the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association), which is the international organization for disc golf, which, among other things, is responsible for maintaining the official rules for disc golf and continuously updating players' ratings.
DGA as sponsor for players and tournaments
Several of the best players in the world are sponsored by the DGA and you will therefore often see their logo on the players at the big tournaments. At the same time, the DGA sponsors a number of major and minor tournaments. They are primarily focused around the American market and therefore have a smaller footprint in Europe.
