Disc Golf in Sweden – 10 Years of Growth in Numbers and Statistics

Disc golf is developing rapidly in Sweden. To give an overall picture of this growth, Disc Tree has reviewed 10 years of data from uDisc – the world's most used disc golf app. Based on this data, we present here the development in the number of courses, rounds played and registered players from 2016 to 2025. Note that all figures reflect only activity registered in the app, and that the actual scope of the sport is likely considerably higher.

Disc golf is an accessible and challenging outdoor activity for everyone. The sport has seen significant growth in recent years, not least because it can be played across age, gender and physical fitness. At the same time, the infrastructure has grown steadily, with new courses opening continuously across the country.

The threshold for getting started is low. Most courses in Sweden are free to play, no prior booking is required, and a starter set of 3 discs can be found for under 150 SEK. That makes disc golf one of the most accessible outdoor sports for the whole family.

The growing number of courses helps make the sport more accessible to players all over Sweden. Disc golf courses typically have 9 or 18 baskets, and a course's location and difficulty vary considerably – something that is decisive for a course's popularity. In 2025, 827 disc golf courses are registered in Sweden in uDisc.

A course's location, maintenance and size have a direct influence on how often it's visited. Many players are willing to travel extra to play the top-rated courses, and this is clearly reflected in the round data. Whether a course is free to play likewise has a big impact on visitor numbers.

The development in the number of registered rounds is one of the clearest signs of disc golf's growth in Sweden. A round of disc golf consists of completing all the holes on a given course. In 2025, over 1,434,000 rounds of disc golf are registered in Sweden in uDisc.

From 2016 to 2025, the number of registered rounds has grown by over 4,100%. From 2021 to 2025 alone, the growth is 39%.

Disc golf is played year-round. Even in the winter months there is considerable activity on the Swedish courses – in 2025 a total of over 98,000 rounds were registered in January, February and December. The seasonal peak, however, clearly lies in the summer months, when the courses are most visited from April to September.

The busiest months at the disc golf courses in Sweden are June and July. In 2025, July is the busiest single month with over 252,000 registered rounds.

Disc golf players in Sweden

The actual number of active disc golf players in Sweden is difficult to determine precisely, as many play without registering their rounds. Players without a uDisc account are not included in the statistics and therefore constitute a considerable hidden figure. In 2025, over 73,000 unique disc golf players are registered in Sweden in uDisc.

The growth in the number of registered players is significant. From 2021 to 2025 the number has grown by over 132%, and the trend continues to point upward.

On top of that comes a considerable hidden figure of players who don't use uDisc at all. The actual number of active disc golf players in Sweden is therefore likely significantly higher than what the registrations show.
